Jacko Seated 01

Here is a follow up image to the "Backstage" scene. Getting my friend Jacko to sit down was actually quite a bit of work. I, more or less, had to rebuild his entire lower half. I did this by moving around the polygons that he is made of, as opposed to deleting old ones and starting from scratch. I did cheat and only work on half of him and let the computer mirror that to create the other side. (This is pretty much the way I built him in the first place). I did not mirror his head. Instead I cut it off and set it aside while I completed his sitting position, then I dropped it back on at the end. In this image it is only sitting on top of his body. I'll reattach it when I'm finished with his lower extremities. He skin (AKA texture) has not been updated. I've got to create something for his feet. I'm thinking about something like a dog's pads. I need to straighten out his stripes a bit as well and put his arm textures back on. He is holding his arms out to the sides because this version does not have a bone rig inside him. (If you've been following along you know I've had horrible luck with my rigs).

Rigging will become much easier soon. I'm now measuring the release of the next version of the 3D software in weeks, not months. Early word stills sound very encouraging on this front. In the mean time, I've pick up a few books on traditional animation and am studying all that I can. Seems I did not know as much as I thought I did. (What a shock) It will be interesting to see if I am able to translate the 2D knowledge I've gained into the 3D world.
